Now normally that wouldn't be a bad thing, but As Black as Ebony's plot was basic and formulaic. This also felt younger and more dumbed down.

Lumikki's thinking and reasoning were also flawed. She felt different and situations didn't feel right. I wonder if the idea for this story and some of the writing came before the other two.

The shortest in the trilogy, it definitely showed by how neatly-wrapped and tied with a ribbon all the storylines were. Still, I wouldn't mind continuing stories with Lumikki since she is an interesting character, perhaps by starting a new trilogy, maybe as an adult.

While it wasn't a horrible way to pass the time, it definitely was a disappointing ending to the trilogy that fizzled.

Great series- I want more! It was a good story but awful short. Apart from the Snow White themes, and the mystery elements, the two books are very different and don't have that much in common, just FYI.

She was able to help avert disaster, and has taken up with her old Finnish art school, acting as the lead in a feminist retelling of Snow White called The Black Apple, and dating a dreamy boy called Sampsa who's the perfect boyfriend with the perfect life.

Someone is stalking Lumikki, now, though. Someone who claims to know a lot about her life, including a dark secret about her family that not even her parents will tell her.

This person, who calls himself or herself the Shadow intends on running Lumikki around, like a rat in a maze, until they are ready to make their move and reveal themselves to her as a paramour-- but if she tells anyone about the letters, she is warned, the night of the play will end in blood.

The mystery element was done well and there was no shortage of suspects for the stalker. And no, I didn't guess who it was-- a plus.

Lumikki is an engaging heroine who is clever but also weary; she appears to have suffered a lot over the course of the trilogy, and is ready to just be left alone and live the ordinary life of a high school student.

Also, I just want to appreciate how sex positive this book is. Lumikki's relationship with her boyfriend is portrayed as totally natural and normal, and there's no shaming or jealousy or cattiness between Lumikki and any of the girls.

Also, Lumikki's ex-boyfriend is transgender and their break-up was because he wanted his space to think about his transition, and not due to any bigotry.

It was not hard to follow the story of Lumikki, a young Finnish woman who is at an arts school and performing in a feminist revision of Snow White.

There are essentially four things going on here besides the school play. The first is that Lumikki is torn between two boyfriends.

The second is that she is being stalked by a seemingly omniscient stalker who leaves notes and threatens to kill everyone in the school play if she doesn't do as he wants.

The third is that Lumikki is puzzled about her past and her apparent status as an only child. For some reason, she thinks she might have had a sister.

The fourth is that she seems to enter fugue states at times, especially during rehearsals for the play. During these states, she's only vaguely aware of what's really going on around her and seems possessed of a violent nature.

I found the pacing very slow, and here I began to wonder whether that perception was a result of not having read the two previous books. I finished the book, but I never cared about the characters, and that, too, may have been caused by jumping in midstream.
